CO-UNESCO is Ireland’s leading environmental education and youth organization, dedicated to empowering young people to take positive action for the environment. Established in 1986, it operates nationwide, working with schools, youth services, and communities to foster environmental awareness and sustainable development. Affiliated with the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA), ECO-UNESCO is also a key partner of UNESCO’s Global Action Programme in Education for Sustainable Development.
The organization offers a range of programs, including the Young Environmentalist Awards, which recognize and reward young people aged 10–18 who take environmental action. Additionally, ECO-UNESCO provides QQI-accredited training in areas such as sustainable development, peer education, and ecology, as well as initiatives like ECO-Choices and Youth for Sustainable Development. These programs aim to equip young individuals with the knowledge and skills to become active citizens and leaders in environmental sustainability.
