Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is a prominent public research university in Bavaria, Germany, founded in 1743 by Margrave Friedrich of Brandenburg-Bayreuth. Initially established as Academia Fridericiana in Bayreuth, it relocated to Erlangen in the same year and was later named in honor of its benefactor, Margrave Alexander of Brandenburg-Ansbach, in 1769.
