About Cellulant:
Cellulant is Africa’s leading payments company, providing seamless, secure and innovative solutions that empower businesses, banks, and global brands to thrive in a fast-changing global economy.
With a presence in over 24 countries and 200+ payment methods across cards, bank transfer and mobile money, our single API payment platform, Tingg, simplifies collections, disbursements, and reconciliations. It processes over 1 million transactions daily for market leaders in various sectors, such as Airlines, Telecoms, E-commerce, Ride-Hailing, Retail, and Remittances. By simplifying how people pay and get paid, we drive trust, commerce and scale – and connect companies to their ambitions.
Our Story:
Across Africa, payments are more than transactions. They are gateways to prosperity, connecting people, businesses and communities to opportunities and growth.
From enabling a logistics company in Lusaka to pay suppliers across borders, to enabling a hospitality brand in Lagos to scale effortlessly, to supporting an airline in Nairobi to reconcile payments from multiple platforms, Cellulant is the bridge that makes it all possible.
Through trusted technology and customer-centric innovation, we build connections that inspire progress, strengthen economies and transform payments into a tool for progress.
Since our founding in 2003, we've continuously adapted and grown, leveraging our experiences to simplify payments for businesses. We are driven by an unshakable belief that seamless people-centred payments are the key to unlocking prosperity.
Today, Cellulant powers online and offline payment processing, allowing businesses to collect payments, send payouts, and accelerate business growth.
Our Mission:
To deliver seamless, secure and innovative payment solutions for businesses.
Our Vision:
To create a connected world where businesses move money as easily as they share ideas.
Role Overview:
As a Senior Product Manager, you will own and drive the strategy and execution for an entire product line, such as Online Collections or Messaging-within Tingg: our B2B payment platform serving businesses across Africa. You are a proven practitioner of continuous discovery and empowered-team principles who can operate with high autonomy, influence senior stakeholders, and deliver sustained business impact.
You have deep customer empathy and are driven to build great products for African businesses and their consumers.
You will shape how your product line evolves, coach fellow PMs, and ensure your team consistently solves the most important problems for our customers.
What You'll do:
- End-to-End Product Discovery: Lead the full discovery cycle-from opportunity identification through assumption testing to validated solutions—across an entire product line (e.g., Online Collections, Payouts, or Messaging). Coach team members in discovery best practices.
- Product Strategy Ownership: Define and communicate a clear product strategy for your product line, grounded in market insights, customer evidence, and business objectives. Ensure the strategy connects the company vision to team-level execution and the shared product vision.
- Empowered Team Leadership: Champion the empowered product team model by ensuring your team owns meaningful problems and is accountable for business results. Remove obstacles and shield the team from feature-factory pressure.
- Cross-Product Coordination: Collaborate with peer PMs and engineering leads across product lines to identify dependencies, shared platform opportunities, and integration points between products.
- Stakeholder & Executive Engagement: Build deep trust with senior stakeholders, commercial teams, and key customers. Translate complex technical and market dynamics into clear strategic narratives for executive audiences.
- Outcome Architecture: Design product-level OKR frameworks that cascade from company objectives. Define leading and lagging indicators to keep the team focused on outcomes rather than output.
- Talent Development: Mentor and coach junior PMs informally, modelling strong discovery habits, customer empathy, and outcome-oriented thinking. Raise the overall product craft of the team.
- Market Shaping: Influence the competitive landscape by identifying whitespace opportunities in the African payment landscape. Contribute to thought leadership, partnerships, and ecosystem development.
What we are looking for:
- 5–8 years of product management experience, with at least 2 years at a senior level owning a full product line or platform area.
- Proven track record of defining and executing product strategy that delivered measurable business outcomes (revenue growth, retention improvement, market expansion).
- Deep expertise in product discovery methods: opportunity solution trees, assumption mapping, rapid prototyping, and quantitative experimentation at scale.
- Experience leading empowered product teams where the team owned problems, not feature backlogs, and was accountable for results.
- Strong B2B product experience, ideally in fintech, payments, or enterprise SaaS, with demonstrated understanding of B2B sales cycles, procurement, and customer success dynamics.
- Advanced analytical capabilities, including comfort designing experiments, interpreting statistical results, and building data pipelines for product insights.
- Exceptional communication and influence skills; proven ability to align executives, engineering leadership, and commercial teams around a product vision.
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, MSC, or advanced degree in a relevant field is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience building payments, collections, or messaging products for African or emerging markets.
- Deep familiarity with Cagan’s product operating model and a track record of implementing empowered-team practices in organisations transitioning from feature-factory models.
- Experience with platform and API product management, including developer experience, versioning strategy, and ecosystem partnerships.
- Experience with GTM planning for existing and zero-to-PMF products.
- Track record of mentoring or coaching other product managers.
- Experience operating in multi-country, multi-currency, and multi-regulatory environments.
- Background in or strong technical understanding of payment infrastructure (card processing, mobile money, bank integrations, USSD).
- Published thought leadership, conference talks, or community contributions in product management or African fintech.
