Our food system is reaching its limits. Nearly half of the planet’s habitable land is now farmland. 80% of that feeds livestock, not people. Industrial animal agriculture drives deforestation, biodiversity loss, antibiotic resistance, and is a leading source of global emissions.

Right now, the EU is rewriting the rules: agricultural subsidies, protein diversification, and sustainable food policy are all on the table. The organizations shaping these decisions need people who understand systems and can make them move.

The EU Food Transition Fellowship places ambitious mid-career professionals inside the organizations driving Europe’s food transition in Brussels. Seven months, a full salary, and a cohort of professionals who decided their skills belonged somewhere that mattered. You start contributing from day one. This is not an internship. You work on live policy, active campaigns, and real challenges.

In 2024, our first cohort of EU Food Fellows were placed in 12 host organizations ranging from climate, food, and animal advocacy groups to policy institutes and think tanks. 80% remain engaged in food system reform work today.

What we offer

The fellowship runs for seven months: one month of intensive training followed by six months embedded in a leading food transition organization in Brussels, such as think tanks, advocacy groups, or EU-level policy bodies.

A monthly stipend of €4,000 gross under Belgian law, plus a €1,000 expense budget for travel and housing.

Can’t commit full-time? A limited number of hybrid fellowship spots are available: 2.5 days per week alongside your current position, remote and flexible. Note that the part-time option is self-funded.

Who we’re looking for

We select on skills, not credentials. You don’t need a background in food systems or agriculture. This is a career transition program: we’re looking for transferable skills, not subject-matter expertise.

Minimum of five years’ experience in policy, law, strategy, marketing, economics, research, or advocacy.
Eligibility to work in the EU.
Self-starting, entrepreneurial, and ready to contribute from day one.
Non-linear careers welcome.

How to apply

Applications close April 27, 2026. The application takes approximately 1.5 hours. After the initial application, the process includes a recorded video interview, a written test task, an interview with the team, host organization matching, and a final decision.
