ESG Policies Consultant

This role requires thorough understanding of the externally changing context including regulations and sustainability commitments. It requires expertise to assess the impact of the regulations and commitments, and to translate these into workable ESG policies. Additionally, it requires close collaboration with our regional teams in implementation of the policies, understand DLL’s business model as well as the impact of our ESG policies on our operations and business decisions. The global scale of this work requires close collaboration with Rabobank Group.

Day to day:
- ESG policies implementation in alignment with Rabobank Group as well as our business in the various countries and other group functions, such as Financial Economic Crime, Financial Crime Compliance (FCC), Group Risk, Commercial Domain.
- Execution of ESG policies assessments on a day-to-day basis, with solid background research for each case and providing guidance in alignment with relevant domains. Be a sparring partner for business dilemmas and escalations with respect to the policies.
- Interact with the teams in the various countries on alignment of the policies with local regulations and ensure group policies align with local laws & regulations.
- Developing and supporting communication & training of relevant stakeholders on ESG policies assessments and updates in alignment with relevant domains.
- Implementing new monitoring processes for DLL’s Acceptance and Performance criteria across direct/indirect channels. Oversight of monitoring results and applying corrective measures.
Key interactions of this job require advisory, cooperation, analytical and communications skills:
- With Rabobank Sustainability Policy Standard and Expertise teams as stakeholder, for impact analysis and translation to DLL’s business model.
- With DLL’s GBUs for specific impact analysis of ESG policy changes/requirements.
- With DLL’s FEC, Risk, ESG Legal, FCC, CCO and COO domains on ESG policy implementation.
Measures:
Hard Skills
- Data & Reporting: Strong proficiency in Excel; experience with data analysis and building structured reports (Excel, PowerPoint; Power BI is a plus).
- ESG Research & Due Diligence: Ability to investigate whether customers/vendors meet DLL’s ESG policy criteria across multiple sectors (Upwards of 50 ESG acceptance criteria).
- Methods include: desktop research, RepRisk adverse media screening, AI‑assisted queries, and sound professional judgment.
- High precision in documenting findings and reporting outcomes.
- ESG Reporting for Management: Ability to synthesize complex analysis into clear, readable PowerPoint materials for senior management decision‑making.

- Curiosity & Analytical Drive: Willingness to deeply explore a broad range of ESG risk topics (e.g., climate, energy, armaments, human rights, deforestation, animal welfare).
- Adaptability: Comfortable navigating a dynamic policy landscape, switching tasks effectively, and maintaining a growth mindset with a can‑do mentality.
- Autonomy: Ability to act independently while knowing when to escalate a matter.
- Time Management: Capable of managing multiple priorities and delivering in fast‑moving projects.

Essentials:
- A pre-requisite for the job is a strong foundational knowledge in the field of ESG regulation, with preferably a proven ability to translate theory into (business) practice.
- Another pre-requisite is sensitivity to the expectations and demands from society, regulators and other stakeholders, both in The Netherlands and the countries DLL is active.
- Furthermore, as ESG Policies Consultant we are looking for:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in business strategy, sustainability and/or finance
- Broad understanding of the Sustainability landscape, including Environment, Social and Governance topics relevant to the finance industry
- Strong knowledge of ESG (core/theme/sector) policies, ESG risk management and due diligence (Inside-out perspective)
- Understanding the Leasing industry and finance sector Risk and Compliance processes
- Understanding of regulatory context (Inside-out perspective).
- Dutch language skills are considered a plus.
