Job Description
CB is recruiting an Environmental and Social (E&S) Advisor who will be staffed to support environmental and social assessment and monitoring activities for projects primarily across South and Southeast Asia, and as needed in other regions. The role will focus on transaction-level E&S support across a range of sectors, including infrastructure, construction, telecommunications, agribusiness, healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services, and will involve applying international E&S standards to projects seeking investment support. The required technical support may include but is not limited to:
- Review and assess environmental and social documentation (including ESIAs, management systems, and monitoring plans) for adequacy and compliance with applicable E&S standards
- Identify environmental and social risks, gaps, and non-compliances, and develop or recommend appropriate mitigation measures and action plans
- Support screening, due diligence, monitoring, and clearance activities across the project lifecycle
- Prepare gap analyses, technical inputs, and lender-facing memos or action plans to support investment decision-making
- Support evaluation of environmental and social performance of active projects, including review of client and third-party monitoring reports and participation in site visits as required
- Provide subject-matter expertise on region-specific and sector-specific environmental and social issues relevant to South and Southeast Asia
- Support coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure consistent interpretation and application of E&S requirements
Requirements- Minimum of 5+ years of experience conducting or reviewing environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs) and evaluating environmental and social management systems to international standards, including experience in emerging and developing markets
- Demonstrated experience applying international lender standards, including the IFC Performance Standards (IFC PS) and World Bank Group Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines, to investment projects across multiple sectors
- At least 5 years of experience in environmental and social due diligence, monitoring, and compliance for DFIs and/or private sector clients, with demonstrated exposure to projects in South and Southeast Asia and familiarity with institutions such as ADB, IFC, AIIB, and other multilateral or bilateral development finance actors active in the region.
- Strong technical understanding of environmental and social risk identification, impact mitigation, and management measures, including stakeholder engagement, grievance mechanisms, occupational health and safety, and monitoring programs
- Experience preparing or reviewing gap analyses, environmental and social action plans, and other lender-facing technical memoranda to support investment decision-making
- Ability to engage effectively with clients, consultants, government counterparts, and other stakeholders across diverse cultural and institutional contexts
- Technical background in a relevant discipline (e.g., environmental science, engineering, geology, sociology, anthropology, or related field) supporting a sound interdisciplinary approach to E&S assessment
