European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. For our Undulator Systems group we are looking for a
The Position The development and integration of superconducting undulators (SCUs) in European XFEL is part of the facility development program.
Of fundamental importance for the program is the operation of the SUNDAE1 measurement system. SUNDAE1 is a vertical liquid helium bath used to train SCU coils and to measure their magnetic field.
The main task for this position is to coordinate the operation SUNDAE1 in collaboration with other colleagues from the UNSYS group and DESY technical groups. This includes:
- Coordinate and perform measurements of superconducting coils at the SUNDAE1 facility in collaboration with colleagues from the UNSYS group and other DESY technical groups
- Maintain and upgrade the SUNDAE1 facility, including defining technical specifications for new components and coordinating technical discussions with vendors
- Maintain existing electrical schematics and develop new eplans required for measurement activities
- Prepare, review, and update risk assessments to ensure safe operation of the facility and measurement systems
Requirements - Degree in physics and or electrical engineering
- Background in commissioning and operation of measurement systems
- Proven knowledge and experience in data analysis using Python, MATLAB, Mathematica or similar tools
- Proven knowledge and experience in magnetic simulations is an asset
- Experience in one of the following fields would be beneficial: accelerator physics, cryogenics, superconducting magnets, undulators, magnetic field measurements and accelerator-based photon science
- Proactive work approach, excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multi-lingual, multi-disciplinary team with English as working language. Knowledge of German is an asset
