Job description
Why we are here
Together, we can fight exploitation in cocoa. Full stop.
Tony’s is an impact company that makes chocolate, not a chocolate company that makes an impact. And to drive that mission forward, our Product team plays a key role in making sure our packaging is safe, sustainable, and supports responsible growth.
We're currently building a reliable "source of truth" for all packaging specifications through our specification management system, SpecRight. And that's where you come in.
We're looking for a Packaging Development Intern to join our Product team in Amsterdam. If you're excited about packaging engineering, material science, data management, and making a real contribution to how a fast-growing company manages its packaging portfolio, this is your backstage pass.
Here's what you'll learn:
- Packaging specification management. Learn how packaging specifications are structured, maintained, and managed within a specification management system. Support the migration and organization of technical packaging data and contribute to the continuous improvement of specification templates.
- Packaging development. Gain an understanding of packaging development within the food industry through involvement in packaging validation activities and support during industrial trials. Learn how packaging performance is assessed and validated before implementation.
- Data analysis & validation. Support the collection and organization of packaging data, validation documentation, and material specifications. Assist in compiling and reviewing results generated during packaging trials and validation activities.
- Material science. Learn about the key technical and performance characteristics of packaging materials and how they are assessed, including corrugated board, paperboard, paper, aluminum, flexible packaging, and transport packaging.
- Supplier collaboration. Learn how supplier-provided information is evaluated and used to accurately classify materials and maintain specification records, gathering from suppliers' technical documentation, declarations, and material data.
- Packaging compliance. Build an understanding of packaging-related compliance requirements, including food contact material regulations such as Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004. Learn how compliance documentation is reviewed and maintained within packaging specifications.
Here's what you'll do:
As we're in the middle of building a reliable source of truth for packaging specifications in SpecRight, most of your work will directly support this project, meaning real responsibility and real impact. You will:
- Packaging Specification Data Migration & Knowledge Management — Support the population of Tony's packaging specification management system by consolidating technical documentation and material information from multiple sources into a single, structured database.
- Packaging Data Analytics & Reporting Opportunities — Explore how packaging data stored in SpecRight can be leveraged for internal and external reporting requirements, including EPR, PPWR, B-Corp, and sustainability-related initiatives. Map available data, highlight gaps, and contribute ideas for future improvements in reporting capabilities.
- Packaging Specification Development — Support the creation and maintenance of packaging specifications for renovation and NPD projects. Learn how technical packaging requirements are translated into formal specifications, working with NPD, Quality, and Master Data teams.
