The function
Amsterdam wants to take major steps to become a circular city by 2050. To achieve these goals, a better and more robust use of existing legal instruments is needed in rules, policies and agreements.
In collaboration with strategic design agency Dark Matter Labs, sustainable consultancy firms Metabolic, Ecolaw, Flux Partners and many other organisations, the knowledge platform CircuLaw was founded. CircuLaw helps the Municipality of Amsterdam and other governments to make more and better use of regulations in order to promote the circular economy. Legislation and regulations offer good opportunities to create effective circular policy. CircuLaw looks through a circular lens at how this can be used and applied in concrete terms.
This has never been done in this way before and it is therefore a major challenge to tackle it properly and thoroughly. We are happy to take on this challenge, because the transition from the linear system to a circular system is essential to combat accelerated climate change, reduce pollution, preserve biodiversity and ensure that raw materials remain available.
CircuLaw collaborates with several educational institutions, knowledge institutions, municipalities and provinces. For EU legislation, we also build international cooperation. We do this with interdisciplinary teams of lawyers, sustainability specialists, IT specialists, content creators, user testers and various communication specialists. CircuLaw employees come from the Netherlands, but also from many other parts of the world. The working language is therefore Dutch and English.
